Baking Evolution

I’ve always loved baking. Like every other child of the 80’s my first cakes were made with my Easy Bake Oven. What’s not to love about baking with a light bulb? I very quickly graduated to “big girl” baked goods. However, I had other things to do during college. In my 20’s I picked up a passion for cooking. Somewhere in those 20’s I spent four years with a man with two children, and children require birthday cakes. Well, any child in my life requires a birthday cake. I will spare you the details of those first cakes. They aren’t particularly pretty. However, my love of baking was reignited.

One wedding and a baby shower later, I was seriously hooked. Here are some of my favorites:

My first attempt at cake pops!

Baby shower favors for Dylan Prince’s parents.

My first paid job. I still think the color was probably off, and I think about it every time I see this picture. Hope they worked out Bianca!

Thanksgiving was never so fun to bake for!

By far the most fun I’ve ever had making a birthday cake. He was hard to watch get eaten!

Oreo cookie cupcakes. It really was a Happy Birthday!

The prettiest cake pops I’ve ever made. Happy 30th to my oldest friend!

Elephant baby shower cookies. Who knew elephants could be small enough to march through flowers.

This was for my niece-in-law. There were orignially tears over my inability to decorate her cake properly. In the end I think I recovered pretty well.

Another one, for another special niece-in-law. I hope she lets me do her cake next year!

Guiness & Baileys Cupcakes: You will notice my camera skills are slowing improving.

Summer has arrived in the form of blueberries and lemon. Happy Father’s Day!

My life has changed significantly in the past year. Originally I had some really big plans for my parent’s 60th birthday. I hope these sufficed. Death by Choclate for Mom: Chocolate cupcakes filled with chocolate mousse, iced with chocolate frosting and topped with silver dusted chocolate seashells. Carrot Cake for Dad: Carrot cake cupcakes with cream cheese frosting and topped with chocolate carrots.
